Parent Advisory Council Meeting Excellence Through Effort

2 Role of a High School Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
PAC is the officially recognized collective voice of parents of their school. A forum where matters affecting OKM and the education of your children can be discussed.

3 The Purpose of A High School PAC
Provide Parents with Opportunity to … Join discussion between parents, students, school admin and staff. Give input into OKM-based decisions. Help determine where gaming money is spent at OKM. Learn about opportunities for continuing education related to parenting, education, health, and wellbeing of children.

4 The Purpose of A High School PAC
Provide Parents with Opportunity to … Assist each student to meet their educational, social, mental and physical needs and build the attributes of a 21 Century Learner. To unify efforts of the OKM community towards the goal of quality education;

5 A PAC is NOT… A forum to discuss individual students/staff problems or conflicts. However… it is a forum to… to monitor and review OKM rules and conduct, the safety programs, the educational programs; learning materials, equipment and the school building; Learn about OKM organization, budgets, district and provincial educational changes.

6 Who is a PAC member? All parents and guardians of students registered at Okanagan Mission Secondary are able to participate as a member of the OKM PAC.  Any parent and guardian of students registered in SD23 are also invited to attend COPAC, School Board and District Committee meetings (ie Finance and Legal, Education and Student Services, General Affairs, Planning and Facilities, Healthy Schools…) Visit: for meeting dates, times, and minutes.  

7 The Role of the PAC Executive and Non-Executive Members
Advise the principal and staff of the school and school board respecting any matter relating to the school.

8 PAC Executive and Non-Executive Members
Executive Positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, COPAC Essential Non-Executive Committee Members: Members at Large, Communications/Social Media Coordinator, Parent Education Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator, Student Rep* and Teacher Rep* * will invite representation for 2016/17

9 Your Involvement… Parents are encouraged and invited to bring forth issues, suggestions, or concerns relating to the meeting and enhancement of the needs of your OKM community.

10 Your Involvement… These issues can be brought forth by:
contacting a PAC executive member sending a letter to the school addressed to a member of the PAC executive attending a PAC meeting

11 OKM PAC Meetings 1- 1.5 Hours (Goal 1 Hour) 6-7 meetings a year
Sept, Oct, Nov, (Jan sometimes) Feb, April, May

12 In Summary… OKM PAC Meetings
Learn with other parents the unique needs, challenges, and achievements of OKM. Be informed and get updates from School Admin, Teachers, Students, Parents, Board of Education, District Staff, and others about District initiatives and changes that impact OKM.
