2
How learning takes place
Your brain is designed to learn Learning shapes the brain – we were not born with a writing pathway, you had to make if If you don’t use your neurons or connections, you lose them The neurons that are used regularly grow stronger You increase your brain functions by using it; the more you learn, the better you will be at learning
3
To create a studying pathway and wire your brain for learning
You need to do the following activities every day: Learn Recall Think Reflect Solve problems Read Calculate Write
4
Repetition Learning something new needs repetition
The more you do something, the better you learn how to do it By practising, repeating and revising, you become better
5
Study styles as preferred way of approaching tasks
Every person’s brain is different, because of the way in which it is wired Your brain is special and unique Each brain prefers to learn in a particular way You need to find the learning style that suits the way in which your brain is wired
6
If you know your brains preference you can improve:
The way of doing tasks and studying Your understanding of school subjects How you remember information needed for exams
7
Left- and right-brain dominance
Your learning preference will depend on you linking for right-of left-brained thinking You have a preference or dominance on either the left or the right side of your brain When studying you can use a study style that suits the dominant side of your brain, while also trying to develop the less dominant side You need both sides of your brain to work together for learning
8
Left-brained YOU HAVE THESE NOT SO CREATIVE ATTRIBUTES: uses logic,
detail oriented, facts rule, words and language, math and science, order/pattern perception, reality based, forms strategies, practical ,
9
Left-brain dominance You want to understand each part, in order to understand the whole. You like order in your classroom You are comfortable listening to lessons and oral directions You enjoy analysing problems to find the right answer You prefer questions to have only right and wrong answers You are organised You prefer to study while sitting up at a desk You think there is a right way and a wrong way to do everything you find it easy to remember facts You don’t enjoy writing creative essays You enjoy doing calculations You enjoy grammar more than literature
10
Right-brained YOU EXHIBIT THE FOLLOWING CREATIVE ATTRIBUTES:
uses feeling, imagination, symbols and images, present and future, philosophy & religion, believes, appreciates, spatial perception,
11
Right-brain dominance
You prefer less structure in the class. You get bored listening to a lot of facts, and oral directions You like to write or tell poems and stories You like to daydream and sometimes take longer to answer You sometimes take longer to answer questions because you think of more possible answers You are more disorganised You prefer to study while lying down on your bed You think there are many different ways that can be right of wrong You prefer to do language, arts You sometimes struggle to remember facts You find it easy to write creative essays You enjoy drawing or making music You prefer literature to grammar

21
SAY the COLOUR, Not the word.
22
SAY the COLOUR, Not the word.
Your right brain will try to say the colour while your left brain will read the word! Can you do it in less than a minute? If you can complete this test easily then the right side of your brain is dominant. If you find it hard you’re a left brainer.
