1 Interactive Notebook Pages 1-9

2 You will need Construction paper (or any durable sheet of paper)
A stapler Tape (If you don’t have glue) Note Cards (Optional) Something colorful to write with (Optional) Scissors Glue Stick You will need

3 Step One: Create a pocket in your notebook

4 Creating a pocket 1. This is the cover of your note book.
2. Open the book so that you can see the back of the front cover and the first page in the book 3. Take a piece of construction paper and fold it horizontally. Make sure the paper fits within the margins of the cover. 4. Staple the construction paper on each end creating a pocket. Be sure to have the smooth end of the staple facing up. 5. The end result should look like this

5 Step Two: Table of Contents
Leave the first two pages blank, so that you can add to the table of contents as we go. On the first page copy the information below (exactly as you see it) for your table of contents Step Two: Table of Contents Creative Tip: Personalize your table of contents with colorful markers and pins. Be careful using harsh markers that may bleed through the page. If your marker bleeds through, just remember not to use the front and back of that page.

6 Step Three: Create page 1 “Annotation Guide for Fiction”
Remember to leave about two pages between your table of contents and your actual page one. Start at the top and title this page: Annotation Guide for Fiction Skip three lines and write: “Underline and label the following” on the 4th line Skip two lines and write the following: 1st Reading Words/Evidence that reveal setting Words/Evidence that reveal character Words/Evidence that show major shifts or changes in the story or character(s) Skip one line and write the following: 2nd Reading Word Choice/Figurative language that conveys the mood Words/ Figurative language that convey the theme or central idea To view what this page should look like, go to the next slide.

8 Step Four: Accountable Talk Stems
This will be page 2 in your interactive notebook Take the handout provided at the table Cut it down to size, and paste it on page two of your interactive note book (back of page 1) Be sure to label the page number at the bottom of the page. If you need the handout because you were not in class…check the handouts section on the class website. If you don’t have a printer, you can write it. Step Four: Accountable Talk Stems
