2 STATION 1 Read and annotate Eula Biss' explanation of herd immunity on pg of the module packet a. What is the extended metaphor that Biss uses? Circle words that develop the metaphor. b. Underline the sentence that best communicates her claim - the point she is trying to make about herd immunity.

3 STATION 2  Analyze and Annotate the National Institute for Health Infographic on pg. 28 of the module packet Make notes in the margin around the picture… a. What do the arrows represent? b. What do the concentric rings represent surrounding the dark figures? c. What are the 3 situations describing?  d. What is the claim (opinion) of this NIH Infographic? Write in one clear concise sentence. e. How does this infographic relate to the Biss explanation on pg. 26 & 27 of herd immunity? Pick a sentence from her work that emphasizes the claim in this picture. (If this is your first station, then answer this question after you have completed Station 1)

How is Gillray's picture "The Cow Pock--or--the Wonderful Effects of the New Inoculation" satirical?  b. How does Gillray create an ironic contrast between the cartoon's image and the title?  c. How does Gillray use exaggeration to make his point? What do you notice about the physical features of the people?  (Note:  Satire is the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices.)

Only describe what the eye sees. b. Then, make an inference for each observation. What can be interpreted from this observation.
