1683: His hut burned down and his mother died, so he became a wandering monk Traveled from place to place, teaching people in every town about haiku

What is a haiku? Haiku: A poem consisting of three lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables. Usually focuses on some aspect of nature. The “Haiku Moment”: A haiku is like a photograph, depicting a scene and often causing an emotional response in its viewer. The “photograph” itself has no caption telling us how to respond to it.
