3 RENAISSANCE ART Art from the preceding Medieval era:
reflection of religious life, emphasis on after life; influenced by ever-growing Christian Church Renaissance art became more focused on nature and mankind reflection of the revival of classical art forms Focus on the natural human form E.g., Donatello and Michelangelo's David; Idealized body – beautiful, muscular, pure More of a civic meaning, rather than religious representation of ideal man, ideal ruler Modeled after Greek statues of gods

5 Artists at this time achieved a higher degree of respectability (and wealth)
