1 BLESSINGS OF RAMADAN

2 WHAT IS RAMADAN? Saum (Fasting) is the 4th pillar of Islam. Fasting means going without food or water for a period of time, exists in many religions. It is a meaning of cleaning oneself to focus on one’s spiritual health and as a way of showing obedience to and love for GOD.

3 We fast during all the hours of daylight, from dawn(the time of Fajr prayer) until sunset (the time of Maghreb Prayer). Muslims begin fasting by eating “sehri” before Fajar and open their fast “iftar” at Maghreb time. Sunrise Sunset

4 FASTING It helps our bodies clean themselves from all the
bad things we have been eating. It also prevents people from eating too much which can destroy their good health. All Muslims should give special attention to their spiritual development. Giving up food and drinks is just one aspect of fasting. By fasting we feel how poor people may feel everyday of their lives. Fasting also reminds us to think about the poor who don’t have food or water and it helps us to be grateful to Allah for all we have. When a person is fasting they should try to avoid all bad actions such a bad language, arguments, anger and other negative behavior.

5 WHAT ARE THE BLESSINGS OF RAMADAN?
To become righteous: what is righteous? It is fear of God/love of God and as long as we have righteousness God will cover our shortcomings and our sins unless we become so audacious that fear of God leaves us when committing sin. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) said God says if man comes one span nearer to Me, I go one yard closer to him and if he comes one hand span closer to Me, I go a distance of two hand spans and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running. Thus if man does not avail of so many ways and means that God has put in place to seek His pleasure then it is nothing but man's own hard-heartedness.

6 ‘Thee alone do we worship and Thee alone do we implore for help’ (1:5)
In the month of Ramadan we should try and worship God with complete sincerity. We should develop a good understanding of Unity of God and honor it and we should honor Salat. Ramadan is a source to attain high standards of spirituality and should be fully availed of. We should try and enter Paradise through all the doors that are opened. This is a most special month of acceptance of prayer and the greatest prayer is when God’s nearness is sought, communion with Him is prayed for. When one finds God all of one’s other wishes and desires are taken care of. Ramadan can be a source of revolutionary change, but it is for those who bring about pious changes in themselves, who try and adapt their word and deed in accordance to God’s pleasure, who try and establish God’s kingdom so that they can avail of God’s enhanced mercy and forgiveness during Ramadan.  During Ramadan worship of God and heightened and careful study of the Qur’an is essential, it is also essential that the impact of the worship and the study is evident in one’s moral condition.  ‘Thee alone do we worship and Thee alone do we implore for help’ (1:5)
