Sine: the inverse of sine is in Quadrants I and IV Cosine: the inverse of cosine is in Quadrants I and II Tangent: the inverse of tangent is in Quadrants I and IV

3 Inverse Trigonometric Functions
arcsin x is the same thing as the inverse of sin x arccos x is the same thing as the inverse of cos x arctan x is the same thing as the inverse of tan x

4 Inverse Trigonometric Functions
You can only use your calculator if the angle is not on the Unit Circle Steps for finding the angle using inverse trigonometric functions Find the Quadrant the angle is in Find the denominator (6, 4, or 3) Find the numerator

5 Inverse Trigonometric Functions
If the angle is in Quadrant I, pi is in the numerator If the angle is in Quadrant II, the numerator is one less than the denominator (remember pi) If the angle is in Quadrant IV, write the angle for Quadrant I and make it negative
