IBC & Biosafety Office The Biosafety Office provides administrative support to the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) which is charged with reviewing and approving all University research activities involving the use of biohazardous materials and recombinant  or synthetic nucleic acid molecules, as described in the National Institutes for Health “Guidelines for Research Involving the Use of Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules” (NIH Guidelines) and the current edition of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “Biohazards in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories” (the “BMBL” or CDC Guidelines). The IBC is formed by UC faculty, laboratory and administrative personnel as well as representatives of the community. IBC ROSTER The Biosafety Office and IBC work closely to ensure the safety and health of research staff and compliance with applicable laws. IBC Meetings Regular meetings are scheduled from 12 pm to 2 pm on the first Thursday of every month. The deadline for review at a given meeting is two weeks in advance of a regularly scheduled meeting. Protocols received after this date will be placed on the agenda the next month. Anyone wishing to attend the meeting or propose new business must contact the Biosafety Office at least one week in advance of the meeting. IBC Registration Biosafety Office: IBC Overview
