1 Myles Standish Myles Standish sailed to the New World with the Pilgrims on the Mayflower and served as military leader for the Plymouth colony.

2 Myles Standish He sailed to New England on the Mayflower in 1620.
He protected the Pilgrims, fought hostile native tribes and ousted colonists who were considered "unpuritanical.”

3 Myles Standish Standish was well respected within the Plymouth Colony.
He held a number of positions of authority. He made several trips to England to bring trading goods back

4 William Bradford He was among the passengers on the Mayflower’s trans-Atlantic journey. He signed the Mayflower Compact upon arriving in Massachusetts in 1620.

5 William Bradford He joined the Separatist church at the age of seventeen. Bradford served thirty - one-year terms as governor of the colony between 1622 and 1656. It was Bradford’s decision to distribute land among all the settlers.

6 William Bradford He was Plymouth Colony governor for more than thirty years. He helped draft the colony’s legal code.

7 William Bradford Beginning in 1630, he started writing a history of the Plymouth Colony, which is now published under the title Of Plymouth Plantation.

8 Mayflower Compact The Mayflower Compact was a set of rules for self-governance.

9 Mayflower Compact The Pilgrims had signed a contract with the Virginia Company, but they landed in Massachusetts. They argued the Virginia Company contract was void since they landed outside of Virginia Company territory. They declared they were no longer bound to the company’s charter.

11 Mayflower Compact the colonists would remain loyal subjects to King James, despite their need for self-governance the colonists would live in accordance with the Christian faith the colonists would create one society and work together to further it the colonists would create and enact “laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions and offices…” for the good of the colony, and abide by those laws

12 John Carver The Pilgrims sent John Carver as their representatives to England to negotiate with the Virginia Company and organize the business.

13 John Carver Carver came on the Mayflower.
He acted as governor on the ship for the voyage. After arrival, he was elected governor of the Colony, and remained in that capacity until his death in 1621.

14 William Brewster Brewster with Thomas Brewer and others began working a printing press and publishing religious books and pamphlets. They were then illegal. Thomas Brewer was arrested, but Brewster managed to evade the authorities

15 William Brewster He went on the Mayflower and he brought his wife Mary and two youngest children. He is credited with writing the Mayflower Compact.

16 Edward Winslow He was on many of the early explorations of Cape Cod, and led a number of expeditions to meet and trade with the Indians.  Edward Winslow became involved in defending the Plymouth and later Massachusetts Bay Colonies from their opponents and adversaries in England.

20 King Philip’s War King Philip’s War, a violent and bloody conflict between the Wampanoag and English colonists

21 King Philip’s War The underlying cause of the war was the colonists unrelenting desire for more and more land, but the immediate cause for its outbreak was the trial and execution of three of Metacomet’s men by the colonists. 

22 King Philip’s War One in 10 soldiers on both sides were killed.
