1 Presentation by Åsta Lovise Einstabland, Head of the Centre for Gender and Equality – University of Agder Sofia –

2 Centre for Gender and Equality was established in 2008
Official opening by Anniken Huitfeldt - Minister of Children and Equality The founders are The University of Agder and The Norwegian Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs. Center for Gender and Equality was established in 2008. The background for the Gender Equality Center was created was because this region scores low on gender equality and living conditions challenges. A request was therefore made for the University of Agder to establish the center because the region wanted more knowledge and development in gender equality challenges. For 10 years we have been working in close cooperation with municipalities in the region and with other public and private actors to deliver knowledge and advice. We have no legal authority so it is up to each municipality and decide how they will solve their gender equality challenges. It is also worth noting that this center was created because politicians saw the importance of having a gender equality center. Where we can see changes are in municipalities that have taken gender equality as a priority area in their strategy and action plans. Here it is important to note that there must be political will and priorities in order to achieve full equality.
