Ovarian Cycle 28 days The cycle in which an oocyte matures, erupts from the ovary, and then travels down the oviduct. If not fertilized the process repeats all over again.

Ovulation ovarian follicle ruptures and discharges an ovum (gamete)

Luteal Phase Forms corpus luteum which produces progestogens (required during pregnancy.

Menstrual Cycle If implantation does not occur the corpus luteum will die, dropping progesterone and estrogen hormones causing the uterus to shed its lining

Menstruation Days 1-5 “period”
Shedding of blood or endometrium lining. Low on iron

Preovuiatory Days 6-14 Wall of endometrium begins to thicken.

Postovulatory Days 15-28 progesterone produced by ovaries
