2 Ovarian Cycle 28 days The cycle in which an oocyte matures, erupts from the ovary, and then travels down the oviduct. If not fertilized the process repeats all over again.

3 Follicular Phase Follicles in the ovary mature

4 Ovulation ovarian follicle ruptures and discharges an ovum (gamete)

6 Luteal Phase Forms corpus luteum which produces progestogens (required during pregnancy.

8 Menstrual Cycle If implantation does not occur the corpus luteum will die, dropping progesterone and estrogen hormones causing the uterus to shed its lining

9 Menstruation Days 1-5 “period”
Shedding of blood or endometrium lining. Low on iron

10 Preovuiatory Days 6-14 Wall of endometrium begins to thicken.

11 Postovulatory Days 15-28 progesterone produced by ovaries
Builds up endometrium wall Protects wall
