2 Homework Quiz Briefly answer ONE of the following on your own paper. Use your own notes. Please remember your academic integrity. According to the article, for what reasons did Americans want to move west during the 1840s? Briefly explain a couple of these reasons. What was Manifest Destiny? Explain what it motivated many Americans to do?

Think of a time when you had to decide whether or not to fight (or argue) over something significant. For what reasons are we willing to fight? Major Themes Sheet - Origins of the US Civil War What do we already know?

Animated Atlas: What conflicts can you see? How does this fit with what you know?

8 1 ½ Day Group Project GQ#1 - How and why did the outcomes of the war with Mexico 1846–48 add to sectional difficulties? I. Read the article on The Mexican-American War. Underline/highlight/annotate as you read. How is this significant to the guiding questions? II. Complete the History Frame as much as you can with information from the article. This is a resource you can use on the mid-unit quiz.

9 1 ½ Day Group Project Work with your group to create a short presentation that addresses the question, “How and why did the outcomes of the war with Mexico 1846–48 add to sectional difficulties?” On what issues did the North & South disagree, and why did they disagree? To what problems did these disagreements lead? Short skit, cartoon, chart, drawing, video, etc. Why/how is the war dividing the US? How did different groups or sections of the country view the war & its outcomes?

10 Work with your group to create a short presentation that addresses the question, “How and why did the outcomes of the war with Mexico 1846–48 add to sectional difficulties?” On what issues did the North & South disagree, and why did they disagree? To what problems did these disagreements lead? Presentation could be a brief skit, a cartoon series, a song, short video, a drawing or chart, or whatever format you choose. You should present both a northern and a southern perspective on the war and its outcome***. See you Major Themes sheet for vocabulary that you should include. 11 Group Presentations You have 8 ½ minutes to work with your group to finalize your presentation. Short skit, cartoon, chart, drawing, video, etc. Why/how is the war dividing the US? See the assignment sheet, rubric, and Major Themes sheet ! Your presentation doesn’t need to be more than 2-3 minutes. Just make sure you present good information that answers the question!
