2 Let’s take a look at some popular food from around the world.

3 Nicaragua Nicaragua is in Central America.
The population is 6.22 million people. Currency is the Nicaraguan Córdoba. Nicaragua is in Central America. The capital city is Managua.

4 Nicaragua Nicaragua is the biggest country in Central America. It has two beautiful freshwater lakes as well as a chain of volcanoes.

5 Nicaragua In Nicaragua coffee, bananas, sugarcane, cotton, rice and corn are grown and sold as popular exports. A typical Nicaraguan meal is Tortilla. CAFOD’s work in Nicaragua includes: - Housing, water, food and education projects. Growing crops, keeping animals, and protecting the environment. We work with partners to help communities have food, water and safe housing.

The population in Mozambique is 29.6 million people. Currency is the Metical. Did you know they speak Portuguese in Mozambique? Mozambique is in Southern Africa. The capital city is Maputo.

9 Mozambique Mozambique’s climate is dry with low rainfall but in recent years floods have destroyed their land.

10 Mozambique Mozambique exports thousands of tonnes of prawns to Europe!

12 Mozambique CAFOD has been working in Mozambique since 1983.
CAFOD is working with Church partners in Mozambique to: support people after floods, by providing food, clean water, medical supplies and shelter. support people who have health problems access medicine and grow their own food. - supporting children to complete their education. We work with partners to help communities to rebuild after floods, grow food and work to help children complete their education.

13 Cambodia Cambodia is in South East Asia.
The main religion is Buddhism. The population is 16.2 million people Currency is the Riel Cambodia, like England, is also a Kingdom and has a king. Cambodia is in South East Asia. The capital city is Phnom Penh.

14 Cambodia is a country full of natural beauty.

In Cambodia, almost one in five people in Cambodia live on under a dollar a day and only 6 in 10 children are able to go to school in Cambodia. Forests cover over half of Cambodia, but trees are being chopping down in many areas.

CAFOD’s work in Cambodia focus on: - helping people who have health problems access medicine and earn a better income - supporting communities, especially indigenous people, grow new crops and protect the forests. We work with partners to help communities grow their own food, and have access to safe water in the future.

The population in Peru is 32.4 million people. Around a third of the population live in the capital Lima. Currency is the Peruvian Nuevo Sol. Which translate to English as Peruvian new sun. Peru is in South America. The capital city is Lima.

21 Peru Did you know…? Do you think this is FAIR?
In Peru, mining is big business but local people find that mines can pollute their water. In Peru, many children leave school to work in order to support their family. A quarter to a third of Peruvian children aged 6 to 14 work, often putting in long hours at hazardous mining. Peru is rich in copper, silver, lead, zinc, oil and gold. In the past, many communities moved from the mountains and other rural parts of Peru to cities such as Lima, where they settled together in areas known as “invasions” (informal settlements). Many Peruvians have moved from the countryside to urban informal settlements. Do you think this is FAIR?

22 Peru CAFOD has been working in Peru since 1968.
We work with partners to help communities deal with water pollution, and we support training projects to help young people and women living in shanty towns to find work. One of the projects CAFOD supports in Peru is a baking group. Women can learn how to bake cakes and can sell them to make money. They also learn how to run a co-operative business. Another project is the textile group, where women learn to knit different items that they can sell to make money.

23 Bolivia Bolivia is in South America. The capital city is Sucre.
Bolivia has two capital cities Sucre (the official capital) and La Paz (the administrative capital). The population in Bolivia is 11 million people. Currency is Bolivian Boliviano. Bolivia is in South America. The capital city is Sucre.

24 Bolivia Bolivia has glaciers and rain forest and two thirds of the population are indigenous people.

25 Bolivia A popular desert in Bolivia is Cocadas. They are made with coconut and condensed milk. Go to cafod.org.uk to learn how to cook it. One delicacy in Bolivia is chuño. This is a type of potato that is dried out overnight in the cold.

26 Bolivia Did you know…? Lack of clean water and variety of food, especially in rural areas, leads to health problems. Girls are less likely to finish primary school. Bolivia is one of the poorest and least developed countries in Latin America. Do you think this is FAIR?

27 Bolivia CAFOD has been working in Bolivia for more than 20 years.
CAFOD’s work in Bolivia focuses on: supporting communities deal with climate and environment changes. ensuring that all Bolivians have a say in the things that affect their lives. We work with partners to help local people have a voice and speak up for their rights.
