13 Our Thesis We agree with Kant in that there is free beauty and that you can have that “wow, this is beautiful” reaction before reason kicks in, but Kant says that to have pure judgment of taste or pure satisfaction of beauty, you have to be entirely disinterested. We believe that you can have those moments of free beauty, but your interests shape what you react to and culture shapes your interests; therefore, you are not entirely disinterested. We contend that you can never be entirely disinterested in anything.
