1 WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TEAM

2 We are a nation of spectators
292 million alone watched the 10 major sporting events on TV last year… …another 140 million attended and watched games in the five major sports. Fans are appreciated, but they are not part of the team!

3 Misconceptions Spectators can have about a Team
The team is made up of only those who actually play… …the team can only win with superstars, or above average players… …the home team isn’t supposed to lose… …when a team loses, it’s generally the fault of the coach. But how true are these things?

4 This should be our “favorite team”
What, if anything, does all of this have to do with the congregation that meets here? There are to be no spectators on this team. (Heb. 12:1-2) There are no insignificant members of the team. (1 Cor. 12:23,24) We share in both our triumphs and challenges. (1 Cor. 12:26) Though the Bible doesn’t use the word “team” in speaking of the Lord’s Church, the idea is certainly present. See Ephesians 4:11-16 This should be our “favorite team”

5 We must have a goal to accomplish as a team
But it takes more than realizing we’re a team to produce spiritual Victory We must know what it means to BE a team? team is “the action of drawing or pulling; pull, lead, that which draws, and was originally used to describe animals yoked together to accomplish a task. There is Unity! (1 Cor. 1:10) We must have a goal to accomplish as a team “The height of your accomplishments will equal the depth of your convictions” Acts 17:6

6 Ask first, “What needs to be done?”
To meet our spiritual goals, we also must determine our role on the team. Ask first, “What needs to be done?” Ask next, “What can I do to help achieve that goal?” Then ask, “Will I faithfully use the talent or gift God has granted me to assist in meeting the goal? Finally, there needs to be a sense of godly humility permeating each member of the team. Phil. 2:1-7
