1 DRAFT Granta Data pack January 2019

2 Granta – summary Granta has a relatively high proportion of older people, with around 1 in 5 people aged 65 years and over and 1 in 10 aged 75 years and over There is little ethnic diversity in the area, with a notably high White British population Granta Medical Group is one of the least deprived practices in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough There is a statistically significantly high birth rate compared to the South Alliance rate, with low birth weight (under 2,500g) births similar to those seen within the Alliance. Life expectancy in males and females is high Recorded obesity in adults is higher than the South Alliance, with proportions similar to the overall CCG prevalence Estimated smoking prevalence is low in comparison to the Alliance, CCG and national rates Estimates of people reporting long-term activity-limiting illness and being in Good or Very Good health are poorer than the averages for the South Alliance, which may be a reflection of the relatively high older people population in the area All age all cause mortality is statistically significantly low in Granta compared to the South Alliance and CCG. With mortality in under 75 years olds being similar to these comparators The relatively high older population seen within the Granta Medical Practice group may explain why the practice has statistically significantly high recorded prevalences of coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, cancer and dementia when compared to the averages for the South Alliance. However, the majority of these prevalence are lower or similar to the overall CCG averages, and generally below the national prevalence rates Mortality rates for circulatory disease, respiratory disease and cancer, in people of all ages and those aged under 75 years, are statistically similar to the South Alliance rates Recorded prevalence for depression is statistically significantly higher than the South Alliance, and similar to the CCG average Recorded asthma prevalence is notably high when compared to the South Alliance, CCG and England

Granta has very little ethnic diversity, with a noticeably high proportion of population from the White British ethnic group Source: Census 2011 data applied to GP registered population using Census 2011 ethnic group proportions; England data from NOMIS (patients registered at a GP Practice by LSOA, July 2018, NHS Digital) White British White Other Mixed Black Asian: Indian/ Bangladeshi/ Pakistani Asian: Chinese/ Other Granta 90.2% 5.2% 1.4% 0.6% 1.7% 0.5% 0.3% South Alliance 79.1% 10.4% 2.3% 1.1% 4.3% 1.9% 0.9% Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG 80.0% 9.5% 2.1% 1.3% 5.4% 0.7% England 79.8% 5.7% 3.5% 5.6% 1.0%

6 Deprivation Overall deprivation levels are relatively low in Granta, with the group of practices being in the fifth least deprived practices in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Approximately 7.3% children and 8.2% of older people live in income deprived households. 7 Birth rate per 1,000 female population weight births (under 2,500g)
Births and Fertility Granta has a statistically significantly high birth rate compared to South Alliance (this may be due to a methodological reason relating to estimating the female population aged 15 to 44 years outside of Cambridgeshire) Low birth weight births that are similar to the average for South Alliance, and lower than the CCG average. Note: Relates to Cambridgeshire residents only Source: C&P PHI based on NHS Digital Civil Registration Data, and patients registered at a GP Practice by LSOA, July 2018, NHS Digital (benchmark = South Alliance) Birth rates by ward Estimated Number of live births Birth rate per 1,000 female population aged 15 to 44 years Low birth weight births (under 2,500g) Granta 1,065 61.2 6.1% South Alliance 12,281 49.2 5.9% Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG 31,348 58.2 6.5% England 1,989,052 62.4 7.4%

9 Risk factors

10 Risk factors Recorded prevalence of obesity is statistically significantly high in Granta compared to the average for South Alliance, and is similar to the CCG average Estimated smoking prevalence is statistically significantly lower in Granta compared to the average for South Alliance, and notable lower than the CCG prevalence Source: Obesity - C&P PHI derived from NHS Digital QOF data for 2017/18 (benchmark = South Alliance) Estimated smoking - C&P PHI derived from the QOF based smoking prevalence estimate from the Public Health England (PHE) National General Practice Profiles at (benchmark = South Alliance) Obesity Estimated Smoking Number % Granta 2,869 8.4% 3,995 11.2% South Alliance 22,306 6.5% 47,441 13.3% Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG 65,496 8.5% 136,560 17.1% England 4,530,447 9.8% 8,301,429 17.2%

11 Long-term activity-limiting illness Good or very good health
Self-reported limiting long-term illness and general health status It is estimated that the proportion of people that reported that they had a long-term activity-limiting illness in the 2011 Census was statistically significantly higher than the South Alliance average, with levels lower than the average for the CCG. It is estimated that the proportion of people that reported that they were in good or very good health in the 2011 Census was statistically significantly lower than the South Alliance average, with levels higher than the average for the CCG. The proportions could be associated with Granta having an overall older population than the other areas reported. 13 Mortality – all causes All-age all-cause mortality rates are statistically significantly better than the overall rate for South Alliance The rate in under 75 year olds is similar to the South Alliance, and noticeably lower than the CCG rate Source: C&P PHI, from NHS Digital Civil Registration Data and NHS Digital GP registered population data, (benchmark = South Alliance) All ages Under 75 year olds Number DASR per 100,000 Granta 1,571 714.6 431 219.8 South Alliance 13,589 828.7 3,709 248.2 Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG 34,464 901.5 10,385 286.4

14 Mortality (circulatory) Coronary heart disease
Circulatory disease Recorded prevalence is statistically significantly higher in Granta than South Alliance for all the circulatory diseases reported, and also slightly higher than the CCG averages – this could be partly due to Granta’s older population profile Age standardised circulatory disease mortality rates, in all ages and in under 75 year olds, are similar to the South Alliance rates, but noticeably lower than the CCG rates Source: Prevalence - C&P PHI from QOF, NHS Digital, 2017/18 (benchmark = South Alliance) Mortality - C&P PHI, from NHS Digital Civil Registration Data and NHS Digital GP registered population data, (benchmark = South Alliance) Prevalence Mortality (circulatory) Coronary heart disease High blood pressure Stroke All ages Under 75 year olds Number % DASR per 100,000 Granta 1,324 3.1% 5,776 13.6% 667 1.6% 460 207.2 86 43.6 South Alliance 9,966 2.3% 46,825 11.0% 5,397 1.3% 3,737 228.2 789 54.0 Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG 26,602 2.8% 1,122,348 12.6% 14,132 1.5% 9,004 236.7 2,288 63.9 England 1,827,352 8,141,488 13.9% 1,030,869 1.8% Not available

Mental health Severe mental illness prevalence is similar to the South Alliance average Depression prevalence is statistically significantly higher than the South Alliance average, with the percentage being slightly lower than the CCG average Dementia prevalence is statistically significantly higher than the average for South Alliance. This may be expected due to the higher older population in the area.
