RMIT Open Program The Web and Using the VTAC Analysis Tool Presented by Planning and Research

2 VTAC Data Web Page

3 Why have Analysis Tools?
The VTAC Analysis Tool is one of a suite of tools developed by Policy and Planning over the last 5 years. These tools were developed to cope with increased demand for multiple similar reports in a period where a lack of staff resources had resulted in: Delays in delivery Increase in frustration of clients More pressure on staff providing reports Lack of time for thorough checking Other projects affected by time spent on reports

4 The Vision Automatic generation of reports
Created within seconds when required by clients Only require ‘raw’ databases, not prepared reports Clients to determine the specifications of analyses Flexible delivery of information limited to clients actual needs Reports available to larger audience (i.e. empower more staff Present complex data in an easy to understand format

5 What is the VTAC Offer File?
Includes:- Demographic details of students Preference (up to 13) details of students School codes Subject results of students Institutional offers and student acceptance details Offered program details

6 Other Linked VTAC Datasets
Schools School Code School Name School Postcode State VCE Study VCE Study Code VCE Study Name Qualification Type VET in School Indicator Institution/Programs VTAC Program Code VTAC Program Name Institution Name Campus Interstate Study Codes Study Code Study Name State

7 VTAC Analysis Developed by IRCU RMIT University August Version 2 created August 2004. Uses a Pivot Table style approach to analysis. Accessible via the web. i.e. Only an internet connection and browser required. No software has to be installed. New version with much simpler interface and standardised reports will be available in late 2006.

8 What Information Is Available from the Analysis Tool
School last attended Gender Faculty Program Enrolment status Education sector Offer made Preference of offered program Fee-paying/HECS ENTER group Offer institution First preference institution VTAC category

9 Datasets Available 2002/2003/2004 VTAC Offer File datasets.
2005 dataset will be available in late July 2006 when made available by VTAC. As part of the ongoing development of online tools time series reports will be available for these datasets.

10 VTAC Analysis Output Output can be selected in either Excel format or HTML format. Output is preformatted into easily viewed tables with all variables and headings clearly shown in an understandable way. You can use the output directly, or ‘cut and paste’ into another application.
