2. What is a compound subject?
A compound subject is a sentence with two or more subjects combined with a coordinating conjunction.
The conjunctions are usually and or nor

3. Subjects combined with “and”
When subjects are combined with “and” the verb is always plural (no s).

4. Subjects combined with “or” and “nor”
When a compound subject is combined with “or” or “nor”, you use the closest subject to agree the verb and subject
One nail or
five screws
are
needed.
Five screws or
one nail is
needed.

5. Practice Frank and Joe first _______(appear) in 1920.
The brothers or Nancy always _______(show) their intelligence.
The detectives’ sharp wits and intelligence _______(inspire) readers after they read it.
