Domain Controller - Windows Server 2003 or above (The minimum domain functional level and forest functional level for the migration to Windows Server 2012 R2 is Windows Server )
Knowledge of current environment (documentation!)

9. Process – Active Directory Migration
Prepare the existing forest: \support\adprep\adprep.exe” /forestprep
(check schema version against the results from the forestprep - Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\NTDS\Parameters)
Promote the 2012 R2 DC
Migrate the FSMO roles – a pull process from the new DC

10. Process – Infrastructure Roles Migration
Transfer DNS – easy part! AD does the heavy lifting - modify DHCP and static entries (watch for DHCP leases)
Transfer DHCP
Install DHCP on new server
PowerShell – Export-DHCPServer and Import-DHCPServer
Unauthorize old, Authorize new
