7 The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Study
Resilient Solano – Common Agenda The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Study Identified a clear link between childhood adversity and long-term behavioral outcomes, including: Severe and persistent emotional problems Risky behaviors Serious social problem Also linked childhood adversity to seemingly unlinked health concerns and chronic diseases, including: Heart disease Stroke Cancer Diabetes A person is just as likely to develop heart disease from ACEs as they are from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or family history.

ACEs are astonishingly common Two out of three adults had at least one ACE One out of eight adults had four or more ACEs ACEs are dose dependent The higher a person’s ACE score, the greater the risk to his or her health Key Study Findings

Resilience: The ability to successfully adapt to hardships, such as traumatic experiences. Five Protective Factors buffer children and families from lasting effects of trauma Parental resilience Social connections Knowledge of parenting and child development Concrete support in times of need Social and emotional competence of children What is Resilience? The most common factor for children who develop resilience is to have at least one stable and committed relationship with an adult.

GOAL Solano County residents, agencies, and the community are aware of the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and are taking steps to prevent and heal trauma.  County is a resilient community working together to prevent and heal trauma and the goal of Solano County residents, agencies, and the community are aware of the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and are taking steps to prevent and heal trauma. This past May, the Resilient Solano Summit, a one-day conference and convening of stakeholders, served as the launch of the Resilient Solano Strategic Plan to move our community from planning to action!

Mutually Reinforcing Activities Tangible Benefits of SKT’s Resilience Activities Over 1,000 residents, practitioners, and educators throughout Solano County have viewed the documentary, Resilience, the Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope More than 21 education and input presentations have been delivered to over 500 people to increase awareness of ACEs and gather input for developing and implementing the Resilient Solano Strategic Plan. In just the first 2 months of the SKT media campaign, the ACEs education message was heard by 30,000 unique Pandora users, the billboards and bus displays have also helped to broaden the reach into our community
