The Plasma Membrane
2
Cell Membrane The cell membrane regulates what enters and leaves the cell and also provides protection and support. Lipid bilayer: the composition of nearly all cell membranes; a double-layered sheet. There are two layers of lipids. Gives cell membranes their flexible structure. Most cell membranes contain embedded proteins as well. Some of the proteins form channels and pumps which help to move molecules across the membrane. It is described as a “mosaic” of different molecules.
