The 1920s In New York City By: Breanne Galka

What was it like in New York City during the 1920s era?
Many people were living their life to the fullest. The 1920s was a fun era and it created change for people's lives. Jazz and music in general was very popular during this time. The music brought people together as one. This era was also before the Great Depression occurred. New York continued to change and it was important people didn't forget this era.

1920s This era was like light to the world and it's people. It created change, growth, and learning. This decade caused America's position in WWI to be respected for their creativity and inventions throughout the world.

Jazz Age The Jazz culture reflected well among all the upper middle-class listeners. The music created a better way of society. Jazz bands would play in New York City and their music would travel across the nation.

Transportation Trolleys, subways, and the 1920s Buick Coupe were the main transportation systems. New York City is a very very busy place. The streets are always filled with a vast amount of people. This makes it hard for people to drive or even take the buses throughout the streets. "The New York City Subway is the largest rapid transit system in the world by number of stations, with 472 stations in operation."

Flappers In the 1920s, there were young females that dressed like the picture to the right. They are referred to as flappers. These flappers wanted to draw attention to what they thought was appropriate behavior. In this image, these "flappers" look like they are about to attend a club or go out for some drinks. These women... bobbing their hair, smoking cigarettes, and having inappropriate behaviors with men.

Charleston Dance This dance was huge in the 1920s. The Charleston was created through the 1920s dance roots and was part of another dance called the Lindy Hop. The Charleston is referred to "flappers" by the way they flipped up their skirts and shorts. The Charleston can be danced solo or with someone else. It was a fast, upbeat dance, even though modern dancing is usually at a much slower pace beat.

Theatre On August 29, the Warner Brothers renamed the theatre to "Warners' Theatre". This was a very popular spot to hang out with people.

Rationale Of Power Point
- In my power point, the images I chose represent what the times were like in New York City during the 1920s. The first picture is the people of the 1920s and them showing the growth this era of time created for the people. The second image is a jazz band which people would refer to as the Jazz Age. The Jazz Age was a big part of the 1920s. Music created a better lifestyle and environment for everyone. The third image shows what transportation was like for the people to get to where they needed to go, like their job or to get across town. The fourth image is a picture of how most if not all the women dressed like, they were called flappers. The fifth image is  a very well-known dance in the 1920s and its called the Charleston Dance. The last image was of a popular theatre called "Warner's Theatre". The mood was shown through the colors of the photos I chose. The black, gray, and white images created an old-time type of mood. The sites I used were reliable and helpful because they were common, well known sites.

Summary Of Power Point - The 1920s which is also known as the roaring 20s was a very important era. Why was it called the roaring era? This era was a time where it felt alive. From the people, to the movies, to the dancing, and to the music... the 1920s was one to remember. New York City would always be filled with happiness through the music and that made a huge difference. The 1920s was a new time to grow and bring light throughout the city. The 1920s was an era of prosperity.
