Read pp again—consider how Fitzgerald uses stylistic or persuasive elements to add power to the ideas expressed and details to contribute to the description of the valley of ashes. Prompt: Write an essay in which you analyze the strategies Fitzgerald uses to describe and/or characterize the valley of ashes in Ch. 2

In Ch. 2 of The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald describes (or characterizes) the valley of the ashes as _________ by using (what rhetorical devices, strategies, etc.). Complete the above thesis sentence by filling in the blank and identifying 2-3 devices/strategies. Find quotes that are examples of those strategies/devices. Explain how each quote is an example of that device Explain how using that device helps achieve his characterization/description/purpose
