1 Functions – Composite – Substitution – Chief Cards
In this competitive activity groups (2+) input dice rolls into expressions to see who has the highest score. The ‘Chief’ rolls the dice and decides whether the number is positive or negative. ‘Quick Cut’ – Sets of cards can be easily guillotined to save time.

2 Printing To print handouts from slides -
Select the slide from the left. Then click: File > Print > ‘Print Current Slide’ To print multiple slides - Click on a section title to highlight all those slides, or press ‘Ctrl’ at the same time as selecting slides to highlight more than one. Then click: File > Print > ‘Print Selection’ To print double-sided handouts - Highlight both slides before using ‘Print Selection’. Choose ‘Print on Both Sides’ and ‘Flip on Short Edge’.

3 Share the cards between you.
Youngest player is the chief first and rolls the dice. They decide if the result is positive or negative. Players choose one of their cards to play. Highest score wins and gets 1 point! (Draw = 1 point each) Next chief is the player to the left. WATCH OUT! If the roll is the same as the last turn it is automatically a zero!

4 6. Positive. Who has the highest score?

5 2. Negative. Who has the highest score?

6 Share the cards between you. Youngest player is the chief first and
calls an integer (−5 to 5). (Zero can only be used once per player) Players choose one of their cards to play. Highest score wins and gets 1 point! (Draw = 1 point each) Next chief is the player to the left.

7 −3! Who has the highest score?
