5. WHAT IS MIND-BUILDERS?
Located in the Northeast Bronx, Mind-Builders Creative Arts Center was founded in 1978 with a mission to inspire the growth of youth, families, and the community through quality arts education.
Mind-Builders serves more than 600 youth and families with over 190 free and accessible weekly classes in Dance, Music, and Martial Arts. We also offer free Pre-Kindergarten (U-PK), and free programs for teens, including the Positive Youth Troupe (PYT) Theater Program, the Dr. Beverly J. Robinson Community Folk Culture program, and Mind-Builders African Arts Docent Project.
Mind-Builders brings together best practices in arts education, youth development and community engagement in the belief that excellence and discipline in mastering the arts can translate into excellence in school and in life for all students.
We recently completed a $9M capital campaign with major support from New York City and State officials that led to a newly renovated four-floor facility that houses classrooms, performance space and a café - a physical manifestation of the safe harbor we provide, and a true emblem of what it is possible to achieve in, of and for the Northeast Bronx.
We have been recognized by the Bronx Arts Council as cultural anchor in the borough that provides positive creative outlets for youth and adults from every zip code in the Bronx.

6. THE OPEN HOUSE STREET FESTIVAL
WHAT:
Mind-Builders Annual Open House Street Festival features dance, music and theater performances, games, food, tours,vendors of Mind-Builders and the opportunity to take and register to classes.
WHEN:
The Annual Open House Street Festival will take place on Saturday, September 165, 2018, from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
WHERE:
Mind-Builders block (3415 Olinville Avenue, Bronx, NY 10467, one block south of Gun Hill Rd., one block west of White Plains Rd., on Olinville Ave., between Gun Hill and Magenta)
WHO:
The Open House Street Festival gathers hundreds of community members, students, business representatives, elected officials, and artists who come together for a day full of fun and celebration.

7. HIGHLIGHTS OF MIND-BUILDERS PREVIOUS FESTIVALS
Mind-Builders held its first Open House Street Festival in the fall of 2014, celebrating the return to our newly renovated Olinville Avenue facility. We closed off our street to traffic and created a celebratory, safe and family-oriented atmosphere in which passersby were invited to take interactive music and dance workshops and experience live multicultural performances, both in and out of doors.
The 2017 event provided new opportunities to connect with neighboring organizations, sample food and crafts from local merchants, experience new forms of art and culture, and offer a range of healthy recreational activities for an intergenerational population ranging from toddlers to seniors.
The M-B Open House/Street Festival has proved to be a great success, including the attendance of several high-ranking officials from New York State and the Bronx.
