4 Research & Development - 1
Development of a power operated garlic stem and root cutter

5 operation

6 Performance The overall performance of the machine for all sizes of garlic bulbs was best at a blade speed of 840 rpm with plain type cutter. Average output capacity only for one side of the feeder box, cutting efficiency, length of cut stem and length of cut root was found as kg/h, per cent, mm and 2.28 mm respectively. The length of cut stem and cut root was found more uniform with machine as compared to traditional method The power requirement was found to be 1.2 kwh and the cost of operation with the machine was found to be Rs 48.5 per hour. The cost of machine is Rs 20,000 without motor

7 Research & Development - 2
Development and Performance Evaluation of Tractor Operated Mulch Laying Machine

8 Performance of Mulching Machine

9 Performance The developed machine is capable of performing seven different operations at a time such as. Bund forming, drip laying, mixing of fertilizer, laying of mulch film, side covering of the mulch, punching and planting of seedlings. Time required to cover a hector of land is of 9 to 10 hrs The cost of Mulch Machine is Rs 70,000 without punch planter 9

10 Research & Development - 3
Development of sensor based sprayer for variable rate application

11 Field performance

12 Performance The developed variable spraying system was capable of delivering calculated nozzle discharge as per the depth of canopy. The response time of the system i.e. the time between detection of target and emission of spray from the nozzle was obtained as sec. The spray liquid saving of up to 32 % was achieved with use of variable rate function as compared to spraying without variable rate function.

13 Wear Behaviour of Hollow-cone Nozzle and its Effect on Discharge Rate
Research & Development - 4 Wear Behaviour of Hollow-cone Nozzle and its Effect on Discharge Rate Importance: To check the effective life of usage of a nozzle orifice plate (plastic, stainless steel, ceramic) in order to ensure balanced application of pesticide spraying.

14 Operating pressures of spraying
Image Analysis (Microscope) Plastic Ceramic Stainless steel 3.5 kg(f)-cm-2 7.0 kg(f)-cm-2 10.5 kg(f)-cm-2 Operating pressures of spraying Fresh Worn out Wear on Average Orifice Diameter (AOD)

15 Performance Material of construction of orifice plate has significant effect on wear rate with the usage of time and minimum in ceramic plate followed by stainless steel and plastic. Discharge rate exceeds 15% of the initial discharge rate after 40, 25, and 15 hours in plastic, 60, 40, and 25 hours in stainless steel and 320, 200, and 120 hours in ceramic at the spraying pressure of 3.5, 7.0, and 10.5 kg-cm-2 respectively. Hollow-cone nozzles with ceramic orifice plate has found more useful for both lower and higher pressure of liquid spraying in comparison with either plastic and stainless steel orifice plate.

16 Research & Development - 5
Design and Development of Drift Control Shield for A Hydraulic Boom Sprayer Single Circular Shield and Double Circular Shield Hydraulic Boom Sprayer

17 Performance The designed shields found to have significant reduction in particle drift. The finding shows that drift increased significantly with the increase in wind velocity and decreased with increase in distance Highest drift was observed in no shield condition, followed by single circular shield and double circular shield. Particle drift reduction in the range of per cent was found with the use of single circular shield and with the use of double circular shield the reduction was found in the range of per cent. Maximum amount of drift was observed in 0.5 to 1.6 m zone area at 5 m and in 0.6 to 1.2 m zone area at 10 m distance from sprayer in field experiment.

18 Research & Development - 6
Development and Performance Evaluation of Pneumatic Plucking System for a Knapsack Type Cotton Plucker

19 Field evaluation of the knapsack type cotton plucker
Working of cotton plucker in farmer field Collection of cotton in drum Field evaluation of the knapsack type cotton plucker

20 Performance . . During field evaluation of knapsack type cotton plucker, average output capacity, picking efficiency, trash content and fuel consumption were found as 8.84 kg/h, per cent, 5.77 per cent and l/h respectively at 5200 rpm Cost and time required for picking with knapsack type cotton plucker was 9.66 Rs/kg and 8.84 kg/h respectively. Time saving of per cent was observed over manual picking.

21 Research & Development - 7
Design and development of tractor operated garlic harvester cum windrower

22

23 Performance . The field capacity of garlic harvester was observed as 0.26 ha/hr. The digging efficiency was observed as 97 per cent. Saving of 38 per cent in cost of operation and 30 per cent saving in time in comparison with harvesting by duck foot cultivator and manual picking. The cost of machine is Rs 70,000.

24 Research & Development - 8
Design and development of tractor operated air sleeve boom sprayer Size: 3485×1667×2272 mm Capacity: 1.2 ha/h Cost: 1,75,000/-

25 Research & Development - 9
Particle drift evaluation of air assisted spraying system Position of drift measurement frames Spraying by different sprayers for drift measurement

26 Performance Maximum amount of drift was observed in 0.5 to 1.2 meter zone area at 5 and 10 meter distance from sprayer in field experiment. The amount of particle drift increases significantly with the increase in temperature and wind velocity and decreased with increase in relative humidity and increase in distance The highest drift was observed in aero blast sprayer followed by boom with least drift in air sleeve boom sprayer.
