1 Stourport: demand around 580 calls pw, 7% of list, looks steady and the bring in rate of 35% is fine. Practices at this stage see little change in demand.

2 Age distribution: compared with the England average this is skewed towards the elderly with fewer young adults. This clearly affects demand, with higher chronic conditions and higher call for continuity than others.

3 Average days wait has stayed consistently low around 1-2 days

4 85% of patients are seen the same day, entirely normal for PA practice.

5 Good spread of calls through the day
Pattern of demand is healthy. An 8am peak is normal, but spread through the day suggests service is consistent. You could take a lunch break! Good spread of calls through the day

6 Monday expected to be high – plan for this
Loadmaster: shows GPs need for callbacks by day and by hour. Get this right and the response time will be fast Monday expected to be high – plan for this

7 Need to match GP availability by day to expected demand – this is normal

8 Continuity: not bad for practice size, could be higher as some over 85%. Can help patient care and also to manage demand.

9 Summary - stable pattern, needs to work sustainably
Demand overall looked within the normal range, with a bring in rate of 35%, should be manageable. Pattern through the day is healthy and should help you to achieve a rapid response if capacity lines up closely Use Loadmaster chart to plan rotas and stay on top of demand. Continuity now measured and showing some variation, recently higher, worth working on this by giving patients notice of which doctor is in which days, and a choice if they wish (expect about half to choose) A demand led system means matching supply every day. With good planning this should be possible. Many practices take a 2 hour period midday when only emergency calls are taken and returned. Think about this as it may help to make the day more sustainable and bring a sense of control.
