3 What is Sensory Processing Disorder?
There is a dysfunction in the nervous system and our senses do not translate information from the environment in a typical way. This dysfunction leads to abnormal behaviors.

4 An estimated 1 in 6 children has sensory concerns that affect daily life.
Sensory problems affect children with and without Autism Spectrum Disorders.

5 The Lesser Known Senses
The 5 Senses Visual (sight) Tactile (touch) Gustatory (taste) Olfactory (smell) Auditory (hearing) The Lesser Known Senses Proprioceptive (position) Vestibular (the sense of knowing where you are)

23 Sensory Kits – are a portable container/ backpack/booksack, etc contains items to stimulate or calm a student’s sensory system. Examples of items to include – social stories, portable schedules , noise reducing headphones (non-working ones-cut off cord), calming items (squeeze balls, putty, gum), fidgets, and more.
