The design of the Citizen Honors Medal is taken from the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery.
The Greek citizens are used to show the link between anonymous heroes in uniform and hometown heroes in civilian life

Singular Act of Heroism
Ongoing Acts of Selfless Service
Young Hero
Community Service Hero
Mention that while they were only able to choose one Awardee from the six selections, Recipients have hundreds of nominations to choose from and will pick to fill the four categories above.
They will now see the Awardees that they have chosen

Saved the lives of 50 children during the bridge collapse on

This father and son team rescued people during Hurricane Isaac when professional emergency services had deemed the situation too dangerous to continue.

9. Marie Conley Act of Heroism
A crossing guard in Boston, she was fatally struck as she shielded a young student from a reckless driver, saving the boy’s life.

10. Myles Eckert Young Hero
At the age of 8, this Gold Star Kid found a $20 bill and chose to donate it to a soldier rather than to keep it for himself. This act started a movement that has since raised over 2 million dollars for children of fallen service members.
