5. Sims Sustainability Projects
Sims has implemented and continues to implement a number of sustainability centered projects.
In several facilities we have installed or are planning to install energy efficient lighting systems and/or HVAC systems.
We have installed several systems to improve the energy efficiency of our heaviest energy users – our automobile shredders. These include the use of capacitor banks to improve power factor and the use of variable frequency drives for conveyors.
We have implemented a practice of reducing truck idling time and are evaluating means to do so automatically.
