1 The relationship between Social skills and Learning Achievements of Business students at Asia Pacific International University Walaiporn Seksuntisakul, Wanlee Putsom, Damrong Sattayawaksakul, and Nittaya Leenothai

2 Introduction Education institutions are crucial to the development of country: Promotes higher academic and professional knowledge Mission of high education institutions: admits qualified students provide informational technology system Expose information about the curriculum and the learning management system Provide qualified instructors All institutions must add their own goal to produce graduates with these learning outcomes.

3 Key Factors: Social Skills
Manipulate emotions and interpersonal with others appropriately Chuawanlee (1999) stated that “students with social skills are able to use their skills to influence others and compromise conflicting issues, and ending the dispute to cooperate and work together with others.” These activities will later provide graduates with social skills and real academic achievement

Provide graduates with skills and knowledge according to the holistic educational philosophy of the SDA church. Begins operating in1990 Objective: provide a student centered education which produces competent business graduates both in undergraduate and graduate levels

5 Research Objectives: 1. To examine the level of social skills and academic achievements of business students at Asia Pacific International University. 2. To examine the relationship between social skills and academic achievements of students at Asia Pacific International University.

6 Literature Review Social Skills
Chayadech(1993)- described social skill as the skills people need in order to live with others in society. “They are social living skills and group process skills.” Pangsangsee (1996)- defined social skills as the ability to live in society happily, accepted by society members, and be a member who contribute to society. Westwood(1997)- referred social skills as behavior components of individual that is important to help to interact with others positively and maintain the relationship. Siriphiboonphol(2009)- referred social skills as the ability to live in society happily ,recognize self role, be responsible, and accepted by society members. Social skills are skills that we use to interact with each other, act and behave in the society, and adapt with the circumstances and environment.

7 Literature Review Learning Achievement
Wangpanich(2009)- defined learning achievement as the features and capabilities of individuals arising from learning, changing of behavior, and learning experiences from training. Vacheravarakarn(1999)- explained learning achievement as outcomes from learning, training, and experiences from school, home and other environments. Training & learning Values Moral Sense

Quantitative research approach was adopted for the study Analyst use the deductive method to collect prior theories and data to set up the proposition 2. Population and sample Population for this study was the business students who registered in Thai programs 80 students registered

The instrumentation used in this research was questionnaire which is divided into three sections. Section 1: Demographic profile Section 2:Twenty four questions regarding to 6 social skills Section 3: Nineteen questions regarding to the learning achievements Questions in the second and third section were rate from 1-5, least important to most important

19 Results (cont.) 2.The Test of Normality from the Kolmogorov-Smirnov method shows the value of 0.20 from all 67 samples. It means the data were normality. 3. To test the Heteroscedasticity, the Breusch and Pagan method was employed and the value equal to It means the valiance of data are stable. 4. The RESET Test was employed to test the linear regression model. The non-linear combinations of the explanatory variables have no power in explaining the response variable, the model is specified.

20 Summary The highest level of sub-dimension of social skills was listening skills (3.97) and the highest level of sub-dimension for learning achievement was interpersonal skills and responsibility (3.87). Communication skills possess positive relationship with thinking and commenting skills, analytical and problem solving skills, learning achievement sub-dimension of moral and ethical, knowledge, and quantitative analytical, communication, and information technology skills. Emotion and expression skills was the only social skills variable predicting the learning achievement.
