1 Personality Tests Instruments or techniques used to assess or evaluate personality. But what is personality??? Relatively unchanging personal characteristics Determine a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviour in a wide range of situations. Administer test. Are students surprised by the results???

2 Why are these tests useful?
Give psychologists valuable information about whether or not their client has any disturbances in their personality, as well as personality strengths. Advantages: Easy to administer, can provide a lot of information in a short period of time. Disadvantages: Validity – does the test measure what it is meant to????

3 Personality Tests - projective tests
The client makes up a story or describes what they see in response to a neutral stimulus, such as picture, inkblot, play materials. You would have seen this one in the movies... Rorschank Inkblot test. Client showed a set of 10 inkblots. Have to say what they see. Responses analysed. The test goes something like this... Clarify neutral stimulus – not meant to be something or bring about pre-determined response Inkblots have no obvious form or shape.

15 Do YOU think this is a valid and reliable test? Why/Why not?
Advantages: Simple to administer. Can provide deep insight. Disadvantages: Needs to be trained to administer it. Different psychologists may interpret responses differently.
