1 Fish intercalibration – rivers Progress and expected outcome
On behalf of Didier Pont (CEMAGREF) and Niels Jepsen (JRC)

2 Pilot exercise to be completed June 2006
Participation of 24 countries meetings: Paris May 2006 Rotterdam October 2006 Ispra March 2007

3 Main conclusions 2 approaches tested: use common metric (EFI) to compare MS class boundaries – common database direct comparisons of boundaries at regional level – regional databases Main common problems with criteria for selecting reference sites Most national methods still in developement Available common metrics do not take sufficiently into account hydromorphological pressures impacts Intercalibration exercise not possible to complete with current data for June 2007 First results demonstrate the feasibility of the intercalibration exercise 2 more years needed

8 Timetable for completion of pilot exercise
Deadlines 10th April: Sending Reference criteria 12-13 April: ECOSTAT meeting (futur work programme) 25th April: Regional group Reports (~5-6 pp + annexes), common metrics report 20th May: 1st draft of the final report sended to every body 10th June: Final agreement concerning results and conclusions of the report 20th June: Final report sended to ECOSTAT 3-4 July: ECOSTAT Meeting

9 Proposed timetable for completion of fish intercalibration
Future Work Program Intercalibration exercice finalized on June 2009 New National methods next year main EFI+ results in June 2008 Main tasks: Final list of Reference criteria Reference sites selection (~ per country / region). Comparison between countries All data (including Regional groups) centralized in one common database Comparison between National Methods within Regional groups Pre-classification of pressures: recommended but not an obligation Evaluation and Testing of the new common metrics produced by EFI+ Harmonizing H/G and G/M classes boundaries between MS October 2007: Official confirmation of the mandate by JRC December 2007: Final list of Reference sites. January 2008: Final list of Reference sites. Comparison of Reference sites between countries Definition of the methodology. (MEETING) July 2008: Reporting of Regional Groups. EFI+results (common metrics). MEETING 1-2 meetings: June 2009: Final Report: boundaries setting
