1 Common Calculations in Animal Care Industry:
Dosage Store Discounting Feed Calculation

2 Dosage Calculation Dosage rate is always based on weight!
Be sure you do not have to convert your weight to suit the dosage rate: for ex: 5mg/lb but the weight is given in kg You will need to add the conversion factor in

3 Dosage Formuoli Weight X dosage rate X medication concentration = 1 dose in tabs, ml, caps Be sure to put the units in so you can position fractions so they cancel out. You want to be left with tabs, caps or ml EXAMPLE: 8 lb cat needs Amoxi at 10 mg/lb. Amoxi comes in 50 mg /ml liquid. 8 1lb X 10 mg X 1 ml = = ml 1 lb mg

4 If weight needs to be converted, just add in the conversion factor: There are 2.2 lb in every kg. <Your weight in kg is always a lower number than your weight in pounds (lbs).> You can remember this by knowing you have 2 arms, a belly button as the decimal point and 2 legs

5 Example: 4. 4 lb cat needs Amoxi at 10mg/kg
Example: 4.4 lb cat needs Amoxi at 10mg/kg. Amoxi comes in 50mg/ml liquid 4.4 lb X 1 kg X 10mg X 1ml = 0.4 ml 2.2lb kg mg <after some help from Mr. Calculator:>

6 Store discounts are usually percentages before tax
% are x/ or you can multiply the decimal value which would be 0.xxx whatever the value is Item price X %discount = the discount value to subtract from the price

7 Example: Employee discount is 8%. The item is $10.00
$10 X = (your discount is 80 cents) Or $10 X = (80 cents) <subtract discount from the original cost of item> <Tax, always a %, is figured the same way except you add it to your cost!> Total cost would be $9.20 plus tax
