4 Key Legislation - Hatch Act of 1887
Created agricultural experiment stations for the land-grant universities  The Hatch Act of 1887 created agricultural experiment stations for the land-grant universities. William Henry Hatch (September 11, 1833 – December 23, 1896) was a U.S. Representative from Missouri. He was the namesake of the Hatch Act of 1887, which established state agricultural experiment stations for the land-grant colleges. Hatch is also the namesake of Hatch Hall, a Residence Hall at the University of Missouri.

5 Cooperative Extension
The Smith-Lever Act Created Cooperative Extension May 8, 1914 With the success of the Morrill and Hatch Acts, leaders recognized the value of research-based information in the hands of the many. In support of this idea, the Smith Lever Act was passed in 1914. With this act, Congress directed the land-grant universities and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to work together to establish a new program to provide for both the "practical and liberal higher education of all Americans."
