14 How does air quality affect our body system?
Air pollution can cause serious health problems and affect our daily lives. Like the weather, it can change from day to day and hour by hour. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) developed the Air Quality Index, or AQI, to help you understand the pollutants that can be damaging to your health. 28R

15 28R What is particle pollution?
Particles come from motor vehicles, power plants, wood burning, construction sites, unpaved roads, smokestacks, and forest fires. 28R

16 Particle pollution is a mix of microscopic solids in the air (so small you can only see it with a microscope). Look at the picture to the right to see how small it is! The average human hair is 30 times larger than the particles. 28R Some particles are so small, they get deep into your lungs, and some can get into your bloodstream and affect your heart. Larger particles are of less concern, although they can irritate your eyes, nose, and throat.

17 Particle Pollution Questions (use complete sentences)
Where does particle pollution come from? What kind of particles can get into your lungs and bloodstream? 3. What kind of particles can irritate your eyes, nose and throat?
