Figure 1 Chest tube management. “Mild” subcutaneous emphysema is not visible on examination and can only be detected by palpation of the chest wall or by chest radiograph. On chest radiograph, the pneumothorax size was estimated at 10% for each posterior rib interspace visualized between the apex of the pleural cavity and the apex of the lung.
