You may pick up a pad for Sermon notes on the front pew. March 22, 2009 4th Sunday in Lent

See what love God has given us, that we should be called children of God; and this is what we are.

STF #2013 Bless the Lord my soul and bless Gods holy name. Bless the Lord my soul who leads me into life.

STF #2113 Your only Son, no sin to hide, but you have sent him from your side, to walk upon this guilty sod, and to become the Lamb of God.

Your gift of love, they crucified, they laughed and scorned him as he died, the humble king they named a fraud and sacrificed the Lamb of God.

O Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of God, I love the holy Lamb of God! O wash me in his precious blood – my Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.

STF #2113 I was so lost, I should have died, but you have brought me to your side, to be led by your staff and rod, and to be called a lamb of God.

O Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of God, I love the holy Lamb of God! O wash me in his precious blood – my Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.

God of our journey, your chosen people complained in the wilderness: Where is the water? We are sick of this food!

We confess we are weary of this Lenten wilderness: Where are our alleluias? We are tired of repentance.

Rather than being grateful for a time of reflection, we restlessly look for Easter. Silence our complaints. Forgive and restore us.

Turn us again toward Jesus, our guide in the wilderness, that we may look upon him and fully live.

Pastor: Give thanks to the Lord, who is good, whose mercy endures forever. People: Let all those whom the Lord has redeemed proclaim that the Lord redeemed them from the hand of the foe.

Pastor: God gathered them out of the lands; from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

Pastor: Some were fools and took to rebellious ways; they were afflicted because of their sins. People: They abhorred all manner of food and drew near to deaths door.

Pastor: Then in their trouble they cried to the Lord, who delivered them from their distress. People: God sent forth a word to heal them and saved them from the grave.

Pastor: Let them give thanks for the mercy of God, for the wonders the Lord does for all people. People: Let them offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving and recount the deeds of God with shouts of joy.

BH #280 Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see.

Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed!

Through many danger, toils, and snares, I have already come; Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures.

When weve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, Weve no less days to sing Gods praise Than when wed first begun.

The Gospel John 3: 14-21

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. BH #593

Prayer Requests

Let us pray to the Lord!

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

BH #361 How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, Is laid for your faith in Gods excellent Word! What more can be said than to you God hath said, To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed, For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid; Ill strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand, Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.

When through the deep waters I call thee to go, The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow; For I will be near thee, thy troubles to bless, And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie, My grace, all-sufficient, shall be thy supply; The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose, I will not, I will not desert to its foes; That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake, Ill never, no, never, no, never forsake.
