Every day, people from across Canada and around the world rely on the agri-food sector for food, fibre, and fuel. Major Segments: Farmers Crop producers, livestock, aquaculture Food manufacturers Companies that process and package food products Food & beverage retailers Grocery stores, meat markets, fruit and vegetable markets Inputs E.g. seeds, fertilizers, veterinary care, feed, packing materials, farm machinery, transportation

The agri-food industry generated $112 billion for the Canadian economy in 2016 – close to 7% of our GDP 1 in 8 jobs comes from our agriculture and agri-food sector, employing 2.3 million people in Canada We are the 5th largest exporter and the total value of agricultural exports reached an all-time high, exceeding $60 billion The food and beverage processing industry was the largest of all manufacturing industries in the country, accounting for over 17% of manufacturing jobs

Agricultural lands produce many beneficial ecological goods and services such as fresh water, clean air, erosion control, climate regulation, and wildlife habitats Ecological Benefits Farming in Canada has drastically reduced carbon emissions from on-farm activities over the past three decades Carbon Capture Research partnerships between government, academia, and agriculture are targeting reducing emissions from crop production and livestock and increasing water use efficiency Innovation
