1 MARY SHELLEY ( ) - Well know parents (author and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft and philosopher William Godwin). -At sixteen she met the young poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and after they got married in December 1816. - She met Lord Gordon Byron -At the age of eighteen, Mary wrote Frankenstein (1818). -The last years of married life were filled with tragedies

Dr. Victor Frankenstein is a scientist that want to know the secret of life. He creates a creature taking perfect parts of human corpses but the creature is horrible and he escapes because he is afraid. The creature is not accepted by the society. Main Themes: The story is a flashback. -Science fiction -Gothic Novel -Considered the Modern Prometheus -Autobiographical references -The dream (representation of the unconscious) -The double (between the scientist and the creature: father and son) -The different -The fear of giving life
