1 Project 1: IoT-enabled smart mobility devices for aging and rehabilitation REU Students: Kelly Fullin & Nafisa Mostofa Graduate mentors: Sharare Zehtabian & Safa Bacanli Faculty mentor(s): Dr. Turgut & Dr. Bӧlӧni Week 4 (June 17 – June 21, 2019) Accomplishments: Found new possible methods for obstacle detection using TensorFlow Got haptic feedback working Tested setup outside, it worked! Came up with two approaches to detecting whether an obstacle is left or right of the user so we can give specific feedback Read and annotated code Problem & Solutions: When we connected the buzzer to the DRV 2605L motor it would just continue buzzing without prompt. We figured out that the motor was broken/short circuited, so we tried using two new motors, the feedback system became functional. We also had to debug the haptic feedback code TensorFlow and some of our other possible solutions may not be usable on the pi, we are using our laptops for the time being Plans for next week: Finish coding and then implement left/right obstacle detection Test out ultrasonic sensor approach New breadboard for haptic system
