1 The Telelogical Argument
By Ruaraidh Dunlop and Euan McIntyre

2 Why is there a need for a Teleological Argument Playa
As Humans we often look around see various complexities and wonders. Also being the inquisitive bunch that we are. We often wonder why things are like what there like and wonder who and why we were created. This is Where The TELEOLOGICAL ARGUMENT STEPS IN

3 Analogies WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN WHY
The Teleological Argument or “The Argument from Design”, These arguments are based on ANALOGIES. Analogies is an argument in which we compare two similar ideas or objects to see who similar or dissimilar they are. We use analogies as they help us gain new knowledge and help us understand complex ideas easier.

4 Paley’s Analogy Paley’s Analogy is as follows:
Imagine you are on a beach, and find a watch. Even if you had never seen one before, you would probably notice that it was something cleverly combined to work together to produce movement. You would assume that the watch was made by some intelligent designer for some purpose, and that it didn’t happen by chance. The next step is to say that the world displays an order far more complex than the workings of the watch, so should we not credit the creation of the world to some intelligent maker too. That maker is God.

5 Paley’s Analogy (cntd..)
Paley’s is different to other arguments from analogy as he is not just saying because they are both complex they have a designer, But, What he is really saying is that they both have been designed for a purpose, This is why they have a designer

6 Paley’s cheeky support team
The Anthropic principle backs up Hume’s point of view. The Anthropic principle says that if the big bang had been a fraction stronger or weaker then the earth would not have been created. Also if you look throughout nature you can see many examples of design e.g. a hummingbirds beak and the weird desert antelope thing

7 Peeps who are against it
Hume (surprise, surprise) Hume says that all analogies are too weak as the things they compare are not similar enough. One is mechanistic and one organic. Hume hypocritically then put forward his own analogy saying that why is there only one god as it could be like a team of designers building a house togethor.

8 Some more angry peeps Charles Darwin put forward his own theory. It basically states that we all came from wee single cell beasties and slowly have evolved in to what we are today. This is a problem for Paley as it rules out a need for God.

9 Bad design If there was a god why are is there so many instances of bad design for example, Why do we breathe and eat down the same pipe. There is also naturally occuring evil like volcanoes and such. And whats the deal with the appendix
