1 Polynomial Test Review

2 Simplify each expression
p5 4x7y8 a21 1

3 Identifying Monomials
No negative exponents No division of a variable No variable for an exponent 2x²y yes 2. ab-1 no 3. p n

4 Identify each as a monomial, binomial or trinomial.
Monomial is one term with no addition or subtraction Binomial is two monomials Trinomial is three monomials 8 monomial x²m³ a + 6b – c trinomial

5 Degree of a polynomial Find the number of variables in each monomial of the entire term. The degree is the most amount of letters found. 5x First 2. 9z5b6 + a9 Eleventh 3. g7 + g8 – g6h2 Eighth

6 Put in standard form and identify the leading coefficient.
x4 – 7x8 + 4x9 – 3x x9 - 7x8 + x4 – 3x2 + 2 ; 4

7 Add/Subtract polynomials
Put monomials that have the same letter and the same exponent in the same groups. Add or subtract the coefficients. Do not add the exponents.

8 Examples of Addition/Subtraction
(f² + 4f – 1) + (2f² - 3f + 2) 3f2 + f + 1 2. (9x + 5) – (2x – 4) 7x + 9 a + 3a² - a + 6 3a2 + a + 11

9 Multiply Polynomials Use Distributive Property
Multiply each part of the problem to be fair in your mathematics. Binomials may be solved using FOIL, distributive, box and column methods. Exponents change when you multiply.

10 Multiplication examples
2a(2a – 3) 4a2 – 6a 2. (a + 2) (a + 6) a2 + 8a + 12 3. (2b + 6) (4b – 10) 8b2 + 4b - 60

11 Multiply 4. (f – 2) (f + 2) f2 – 4 5. (3a + 2b)2 9a2 + 12ab + 4b2

12 Solve for t. t(2t + 3) + 20 = 2t(t – 3) t = -20/9

13 Application Problem A triangle has a leg that measures 4xfeet and a leg that measures 3xfeet and a hypotenuse that measures 5xfeet. Find the perimeter. 12x feet Find the Area. 6x2 feet 2
