Assignment: Imagine you are an African American living during the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln has just issued the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing slaves and inviting African Americans to join the Union army. Full of excitement, you decide to enlist. Write a letter back home to your family, describing your experiences in the Union army.
