1 Sharing Economy within the hospitality sector

2 Sharing Economy within the hospitality sector
Why work with sharing economy? Growing importance – and also resistance! It’s not all about Air BnB Focus on the customers

3 Current challenges to Sharing Economy
In our preliminary literature review, we tried to identify some of the current challenges regarding sharing economy and the hospitality sector. We used two different perspectives: Current trends – from the perspective of the research community Current trends – from the perspective of the industry

4 Current challenges to Sharing Economy
We found quite a few similarities in our comparison, and we have used that knowledge to refine on our further research.

5 Current challenges to Sharing Economy
Trust? As in the case of AirBnb, there is not only an online transaction, but also a physical part of the transaction that requires a great amount of trust: Will my flat be smashed by the people renting it? Start-ups? Due to technology and low entry barriers, it is easy to start a new company and become a dominant player within any branch of the hospitality sector, but there is yet little research into how this is done: What does it take to make a new service like guest.com?

6 Current challenges to Sharing Economy
Legal issues? As stated in the beginning of this section, a recurring issues within the field of SH, is the controversy it generates. Especially when considering the regulatory and legal issues that occurs, when companies emerge based on a model of SH. How do we tax companies that are not a part of the conventional economical system? Segments? How companies adapts to new segments, is also a relevant trend to address: How do we sell to the “Silver surfers”, and what are their demands?

7 Sharing Economy brings both new value and new challenges:
Miami Beach Government have improved parking- and pollution issues by co-creating value with Über? African-sounding names have difficulties finding accommodation via AirBnB

8 What are the drivers of sharing economy?
From hard, rational drivers (monetary) – to emotional drivers (new social identity, feedback from guests, meeting people) From ownership to access: the idea of sharing is good and old (think of the library as an institution) – digitalization and innovative design thinking disrupt the world of hospitality experiences

9 New hospitality experiences beat traditional hospitality experiences
Generation Share act with a new and different logic – which means that AirBnB’s: New hospitality experiences beat traditional hospitality experiences Online reviews beat traditional service quality- and reputation management Amateur Average Joes beat trained, experienced, professional hotel staff Digital trustworthiness beat trust in big corporations

10 We want to research what characterises the GENERATION (That Learned To) SHARE?
