2. Why should we study history?
Who cares about people that lived long ago?
Why should I care about some event that happened 1,000 years ago?
Why do I care about what one individual did hundreds of years ago?
Who care about the way people used to act?

3. Some reasons? History helps us understand the world around us.
History helps tells the story of the human race, including your family’s story!
History helps us understand other cultures around the world.
History helps us learn from our past successes and failures.
History helps us understand change!
History helps us become good citizens.
History helps us understand events or individuals that changed the world!

4. What will we learn about this year in history?
We will study the United States History from the Civil war all the way to year 2000!
Major events will include, The American Civil War, World War I, World War II, The Cold War, The great Depression, The New Deal, and many more.
We will learn about how the US government works.
We will learn about citizenship, and how to be a good citizen.
We will work on our geography skills.
We will learn about how the US grew and changed, including the culture of America!
We will learn about economics, and how it has impacted the United States.

7. It means… Out of Many, one.
Why would this be written on all our US coins, money, and the Great Seal of America?

8. The thirteen colonies
When America was being settled by the English, 13 colonies were established.
Each colony was different, and had different laws, cultures, and economies.
When the colonies United during the American Revolution, they had to unite together and become one to win the war.
After winning our freedom, The motto E Pluribus Unum was first proposed by the U.S. Continental Congress in 1782, for use on the Great Seal of the United States
It is still printed in many places all over
the United States.

10. Today In America
The United States today is more diverse than ever! We have US citizens from every part of the world. E Pluribus Unum means more today than ever. US Citizens United can do anything!

You will take a sheet home tonight and discuss your family’s story.
