2 Summary SSWG leadership changes
SSWG Chair will be transitioning this year to Vice-Chair Will need to identify a new Vice-Chair Need to identify a sub-working group Chair for Program Planning and Management Need regular strategic planning sessions with DOE

3 Safeguards and Security Mission and Scope
It is the mission of the Safeguards and Security Working Group (SSWG) to support the improvement of the Safeguards & Security (S&S) performance across the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by focusing on the protection of Departmental assets, e.g., Nuclear Material (NM) and Special Nuclear Material (SNM), sensitive information/technology, classified matter, and personnel Primary Objectives include: Enabling the successful execution of DOE missions and programs by promoting security practices that deliver efficient, safe, and securable outcomes. Provide a forum for the active exchange of ideas, approaches and lessons learned that enhances collaboration, and encourages interaction between DOE management and contractors. Serve as a consensus board for emerging security directives proposed by DOE and for the interpretation and consistent application of existing DOE directives. Assure the goals of EFCOG and DOE are met through effective planning and execution. Promote continuous improvement and professional development.

4 Focus Areas Increasing global concerns for terrorist related scenarios, active shooter/workplace violence, insider threats, economic espionage, and other low-level threats create challenges The sub-groups of the SSWG focus partially on the analysis of these challenges to policy implementation and assist with the identification of best practices for implementing a Site or Facility security program, to include the assessment of risk and performance.

SSWG members are from all S&S program elements which provide a wide range of experience and skills. Publish the IOSC Best Practice Guide This will provide insight to contractor strategies and support more sustainable and consistent implementation, with a focus on incident categorization. Update Termination of Safeguards Best Practice Guide This Guide was last updated in 2014 and incorporates technologies and Department implementation practices

Update TID Seals Guide This Guide was updated last in 2012 and will incorporate technologies and Department implementation practices Develop an Inventory Best Practice Document (multi-year) This will focus on Management and Operations in FY19 and other practitioners in FY20

Develop a Cyber/Physical Security Convergence Best Practice Guide This will identify the Department wide challenges in the collaboration/connectivity between the implementation of these two separate programs Review Export Control Best Practice Guide NA directed Oak Ridge to develop Best Practice Guide

10 Identification of Potential Strategic Initiatives for WG
SSWG is focusing on the following multi-year strategic initiatives Physical Security Technologies Access Controls to include HSPD-12 Protection of USG Technology research National Security and Economic impacts Reevaluation of critical assets Protection Strategies
