Schematic is oriented with radiographic conventions to facilitate comparison to magnetic resonance image in Figure 2. After infarction of the left posterior cerebral artery territory (visual cortex and splenium), all visual information necessary for activating speech centers in the left hemisphere must come from the right visual cortex. Normal flow of information from the right visual cortex to the left hemisphere (red arrows) is interrupted, resulting in alexia.
