1 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
Teaching the “whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27) The millennial reign of Jesus Christ Please visit our website:

2 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
No particular Angel – Fred No real competition 2 Peter 2 v 4 Jude v 6 Sealed in the bottomless pit – can’t get out of his own volition Like we are sealed into our salvation Ephesians 1 v 12 – 14 God not into time shares – we are his and cannot be demon possessed.

3 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
The chain – literal in that it binds – might not be physical Bound 1000 years 3 views Amillennial – prefix means no millennium – the millennium describes the church age and is symbolic: Origen was the founder of this (184/5 to 253/4 AD) backed later by Augustine (354 – 430). These and their followers were known as the allegorists and were known for interpreting many passages allegorically rather than literally. The church anathemised them in church councils around 430AD, though these amillennial views survived. The Roman Catholic Church, Reformers, Presbyterian, most Anglican churches and many others believe this. Probably the predominant view today. The church’s job to prepare the earth for the 2nd coming The church well get better and better in preparation for His coming

4 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
Post Millennial Christ will come at the end of the Millennium after the church has gained world domination Christian politicians The majority of people saved etc. Problem being this goes against all the warnings of scripture Matt 24 2 Tim 3 v 1 1 Tim 4 v 1 Jonathan Edwards was a proponent of this view Based this on what he saw when Whitfield preached Whole town convicted 1740 Philadelphia bars closed, 93% of students converted, Hymns, Psalms ans spiritual songs heard from houses through open windows etc.

5 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
Pre-millennial The correct view because it’s the obvious one that fits the scripture. A tricky view because you have to believe the Bible says what it means and means what it says 6-times in 7 verses we have 1000 years with Jesus on the earth ruling and reigning with the saints. For 1st 300 years of church history, no voices against this view except Origen in around 250AD Acts 1 v 4 – 8 Jesus was clearly teaching about the Kingdom and did not suggest he would not come to do this, but would not tell them when.

6 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
Evidence that this was initially the predominant if not the only view Papius – bishop of hieropolis – spoke of his belief in the millennium in superlative language. Irenaeus and Eusabius referred to his writings and his belief in the 1000 year reign of Christ Extract – “After the resurrection of the dead when the personal reign of Christ will be established on the earth” Cyprian of Carthage (195 – 255) – spoke of “the certain reign of Christ on the earth” and said, “we do pray and bed that His rule will hasten” Commodianus, Bishop of North Africa – “They shall come, who suffered cruel martyrdom. They shall live! But from the thousand years God will destroy all of those evils”

7 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
Nepos, Bishop of Alexandria in Egypt Contradicts Origen in a book called “A Confutation of the Allegorists” explicitly says the 1000 year reign cannot be allegorised and refers to over 160 OT scriptures that speak of His literal reign. Lactinatius – Latin Father Wrote of the binding of Satan for 1000 years, “so that he could contrive no evil against the people of God. Justin Martyr – contemporary of John 100 – 168 Dialogue with Tripho

8 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
“But I and whoever are at all points right-minded Christians know that there will be a resurrection of the dead a thousand years in Jerusalem which will then be built, adorned, enlarged as the prophets Ezekiel and Isaiah and the others declare. And further, a certain man among us by the name of John predicted by revelation that was made to him that those who believe in our Christ would spend a thousand years in Jerusalem and thereafter the general of us. . . the eternal resurrection and judgement of all men would likewise take place.”23

9 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
Irenaeus – Bishop of Lyons "When this Anti-Christ shall have devastated all things in this world, he will reign for three years and six months, and sit in the temple at Jerusalem; and then the Lord will come from heaven in the clouds, in the glory of the Father, sending this man and those who follow him into the lake of fire; but bringing in for the righteous the times of the kingdom, that is, the rest, the hallowed seventh day; and restoring to Abraham the promised inheritance, in which kingdom the Lord declared, that 'many coming from the east and the west should sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob' ".

10 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
Tertullian said the kingdom was promised for a thousand years But we do confess that a kingdom is promised to us upon the earth, although before heaven, only in another state of existence; inasmuch as it will be after the resurrection for a thousand years in the divinely-built city of Jerusalem…Of the heavenly kingdom this is the process: After its thousand years are over, within which period is completed the resurrection of the saints, who rise sooner or later according to their deserts, there will ensue the destruction of the world and the conflagration of all things at the judgment.

11 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
Historians Philip Schaft – “a key fact in the belief of the early church was the visible reign of Christ for 1000 years” and “This was the current opinion of the early believers and teachers” Adolph Harnack – contributor to the Encyclopaedia Britannica Faith in the reign of Christ on the earth was prevalent among early Christians This was the case so early that one questions whether it should be treated as an essential doctrine Dr Dorner – Theologian – same view Dr Elliott – Author of ‘The Hours of Revelation’ “All primitive expositors except Origen and a few who rejected the book of Revelation believed in the millennium”

12 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
Joseph Mead – 17th Century scholar 2Chilliism was the predominant view immediately following the Apostles and none were known to deny it but heretics who deny the resurrection” Chillingsworth – “Chilliism was taught by the most eminent fathers of the age” Norman Geissler – still alive “Chilliism was so prevalent that no one doubted it”

13 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
The binding of Satan Praying to bind Satan or claiming to bind him is a waste of time He will be bound at the right time We can ask for protection from his fiery darts, but not bind him He cannot possess believers 2 Cor 4 v 3 & 4 - Satan is a blinder of minds – used to bring judgement 2 Cor 11 v 13 & 14 – deceitful, transformed or disguised as an angel of light 1 Peter 5 v – We, however, should cast all our cares on Him Satan means accuser Rev 12 v 3 a dragon with 7 heads and 10 horns Rev 13 v 1 & 2 dragon gave his power to the beast Politics controlled by Satan the deceiver (God allows to fulfil his purposes) Our citizenship is in heaven (Polityoomah) Phil 3 v 20

14 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
The binding of Satan V 3 he has deceived the nations and it is deceit that is ending Seems to be in control until he is bound Satan means ‘accuser’ – he accuses believers Irony is that Believers will judge the nations and reign with Jesus So who are the inhabitants ruling and reigning? The army in white linen on white horses – immortal The souls of them beheaded from the tribulation ‘The Nations’ so, some people survived the tribulation & Armageddon The rest did not live again until the end of the millennium All are therefore resurrected – some to blessing and some to damnation

15 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
The rule of Christ No opposition No other parties No politics (manipulation, sound-bites, scheming) Isaiah 2 v 2 – no more war Isaiah 11 v 3 & 42 v – no injustice Animals on the earth – Isaiah 11 Matt 19 v 28 they were promised thrones and judgement 1 Cor 6 v 2 & 3 the saints will judge the world and angels

16 The millennial reign of Jesus Christ
The rule of Christ No opposition No other parties No politics (manipulation, sound-bites, scheming) Isaiah 2 v 2 – no more war Isaiah 11 v 3 & 42 v – no injustice Animals on the earth – Isaiah 11 So why release him Possibly because the heart is deceitful – we blame the government(s) It shows the heart of the problem is the problem of the heart Millennial children will need to be saved
